This past weekend, a bunch of old pros ruled cinemas across the United States. It's not often that there's a tie for first place, reports CBS News Early Show Contributor Laurie Hibberd. Nevertheless it happened this time. Hollow Man held onto the No. 1 spot, but was joined at the top by Space Cowboys, which appears to be getting better with age, jumping up in the No. 3 spot. Here are the numbers, according to Hollywood.com:Tied without. 1: Space Cowboys and Hollow Man, $13.A million in box office revenue. No. 3: Autumn in New York, $11.5 million. No. 4: The Replacements, $11.A million. No. 5: Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, $10.3 million. The reality that Hollow Man held to the No. 1 spot was a serious surprise, explains Hibberd, because there were three strong movies opening: The Replacements, Autumn in The big apple, and Bless the Child, also a thriller, which might have given Hollow Man some direct competition. The therapy lamp office numbers might be low as it's the end of summer, and movie companies often release their weaker films at this time of year. Then again, it rained all weekend about the East Coast, and that should have meant that more people headed to the movies. They didn't. Space Cowboys leapt from No. 3 to No. 1, that is certainly something that doesn't happen to a motion picture very often. Hibberd says the last time it happened was when There will be something About Mary turned into a surprise monster hit. "Good buzz, really good word-of-mouth is the touchstone of any hit movie," Hibberd adds. "( Space Cowboys ) is simply attracting mature audiences. I not really know if it will do much crossover business."Critics we hadn't held much hope for Autumn in The big apple, even though it stars Winona Ryder and Richard Gere, because MGM didn't make it available for advance screening. Usually, that's a signal that the movie's a stinker."I entered this movie not knowing what to prepare for, and kind of wanting to hate it," Hibberd says. "And Some hate it. I liked it. It got me, and that i cried at the end." She adds wryly, "I'll oftimes be the most hated person in America for praoclaiming that."The feel-good movie of the weekend: The Replacements, the football comedy starring Keanu Reeves and Gene Hackman, that have some audiences cheering. The tale focuses on a bunch of underdogs who come up from behind to win the afternoon, says Hibberd, who adds, "It would have been a really fun movie." cheap real uggs for sale This week's royal wedding in Britain has come across a series of obstacles. It's even needed to be postponed for a day. And now, there is new trouble, CBS News Correspondent Mark Phillips reports. Now, the issue is a gap in royal security. With all the trouble this wedding has received, it's a about the last thing Charles and Camilla needed.A couple of days before the wedding, a van pulls up in front of Windsor Castle. Police question the motive force and then let him pass. The issue is, the people in the van had no appointment and their ID was bogus. They were from one of Britain's tabloid newspapers, Sunshine, and they videoed their spectacularly easy breach of the supposed ring of steel that's to safeguard the castle and its occupants. What's worse is exactly what was inside the van. There were several boxes in there, one of which had the word "bomb" written about it. Inside was a fake bomb with wire and plastic and batteries so it could have been appeared to be nothing else. And thenewspaper staff drove around, videoing themselves all the way up. "I am concerned, I am certainly irritated," said Sir Ian Blair, commissioner from the Metropolitan Police, which is responsible for royal security."I do not want to prejudge this because you will find a disciplinary process to go through but it appears to be though somebody has done something pretty stupid," Blair said. He confirmed that certain officer had been moved to another assignment as a result."Perhaps it is a wake-up call, however i would not expect anyone within my organization to need a wake-up call," Blair said.Blair, Britain's most senior cop, recently listed the royal wedding among several "obvious and huge targets" for terrorists along with a national election in May along with a G8 summit in Scotland in July. The Sun's stunt followed a string of royal security blunders stretching back decades. In 1982 a mentally disturbed man, Michael Fagan, climbed a drainpipe and spent 10 mins sitting on the queen's bed at Buckingham Palace, holding a damaged ashtray and talking with her before guards arrived.A comedian dressed as Osama bin Laden gatecrashed Prince William's 21st house party at Windsor Castle in 2003. Later that year, a reporter from the Daily Mirror got a job like a servant at Buckingham Palace and took pictures in the royals' living quarters. In September, a protester dressed as Batman climbed onto a ledge for the front of Buckingham Palace and remained there for a number of hours.Police say they're investigating what went wrong immediately. As to what else can go wrong: Weather forecast says it might snow on Saturday. ©MMII CBS Worldwide Inc. Barry McCaffrey, the White House Director of National Drug Policy, delivered his final annual report Thursday as they prepares to leave the post he's held for five-years. He spoke to CBS News Early Show Anchor Bryant Gumbel by what he considers to be the popular features of America's anti-drug efforts during his tenure."Probably the top news, we're concentrating on the younger generation...drug use among that population, 12-17, occurred by 21 Percent within the last two years. We think youth attitudes start to shift," said McCaffrey. He added that overall drug use has gone down 50 percent and drug-related crimes and murders have plummeted. What has the Clinton administration performed correcly to achieve that improvement?"I think likely to awful lot of cooperation now. Following the day, this is a cancer affecting America's communities. Therefore it is the mayors, county executives, police administrators, local health authorities, that's where the success is being assembled." Looking back at the last five-years, of what accomplishment is he most proud?"We tried to...put together a drug strategy that focused on prevention, education and treatment. We attempted to reduce the stigma of treatment," said McCaffrey. "We've got five million chronically addicted Americans. Whenever we don't have them in effective medications programs, we won't ever break the cycle links from drug abuse."The cost for imprisonment of each drug user is roughly $25,000 annually. Treatment programs, McCaffrey said, "can lessen the consequences of addiction." Providing access to them for chronic drug abusers is "compassionate public policy as well as a sound investment."He stresses long-term rehabilitation, saying combating drugs should be compared to the combat cancer. "Prevention coupled with treatment associated with research," he said. How concerned is he about giving approach to an administration that is perhaps prone to put emphasis on punishment and incarceration?"I think the phrase coming out is they are aware...in the importance of treatment," said McCaffrey. On the other hand, what is McCaffrey's biggest disappoint of the last five years?"There has to be equal access for drug abuse treatment as well as mental healthcare in the health/insurance industry," said McCaffrey. "We must change the laws at state level to allow access for people with Blue Cross/Blue Shield cards to a no-wrong door philosophy. If you got an alcohol or drug problem, mental health problems, you have to have access to treatment."©MMI Viacom Internet Services Inc. All Rights Reserved. The Associated Press contributed to this report Twenty-five-year-old Seann William Scott's career has progressed quite nicely in Hollywood. He starred in the ensemble comedies American Pie and Road Trip, two of the biggest teen films in the last few years. In his latest flick, Dude, Where's My Car? he's half of a duo that, well, the title basically says it all. It's about two best friends who partied too much the night before. They get up and can't remember where they parked the vehicle. "It's our girlfriends' anniversary so we think the gifts are in the car. We're retracing our steps and becoming introduced to all these characters," explained Scott. Although plot suggests that the two guys have been high or drunk the evening before, they're never shown getting high."It only agreed to be a buddy comedy and I think they're able to use that to fuel the experience," said Scott. What the script comes with is lots of "dude-speak."The movie that put this Minnesota native on the Hollywood map was American Pie. "When it arrived on the scene, I thought, okay, I want to perform a drama," recalled Scott. "Then I realized it's a great thing to hear kids laugh at something said." After American Pie Scott took a ride in Journey. Now he's one of just two leading dudes. Will the romantic lead come next?"The thing with Dude, Where's My Car? was it was really a challenge. But I would like to play the nice guy which gets the girl. It would be really fun, I do think. I think I've learned a lot," said Scott. "Scott has quickly gained a reputation as one of the nicest young actors in Hollywood. I will vouch for that right now," said CBS News Entertainment Contributor Laurie Hibberd. "As the youngest of seven kids really close family, he says he learned right and wrong very early."His next movie is Evolution, a comedy regarding the chaos that ensues each time a meteor carrying aliens hits the Earth. Scott and his co-stars David Duchovny, Julianne Moore and Orlando Jones will be the only people protecting the Earth from world domination. The film, directed by Ivan Reitman, is currently filming in L.A. and you will be released in July. latest ugg boots The Italian government official who had called Germans "hyper-nationalist" arrogant blonds resigned Friday, his spokesman said. Please note by Stefano Stefani, an Industry Ministry undersecretary responsible for tourism, had caused a diplomatic crisis with Germany and led Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder to cancel his planned vacation to Italy.Stefani resigned late Friday, said spokesman Giuseppe Pinetti. As a boy growing up in Chicago, Hugh Hefner says he fell for each other early — and it wasn't with females.Well, actually, it was with women. But the founding editor of Playboy magazine also fell for each other early with jazz, and both affairs have lasted a long time."It's the music of my youth. Oahu is the music I grew up with. It's the music of my dreams," Hefner, looking wistful, said while he stood in the backyard of his La mansion as a swinging jazz combo played just a few feet away. Then, after a brief photo op with many of the performers, he experimented with slip hurriedly back into his lavish Playboy Mansion, the turreted stone edifice that visitors who arrive by car are encouraged to approach slowly as a sign warns them "Playmates playing."But buttonholed briefly at his back door, the man who gave the entire world fold-out photos of beautiful naked women becomes downright effusive once the topic of jazz is raised."It's a variety of music from many, many sources; a mixture of Afro and Caribbean and Cuban sounds ... mixed in with particularly American sounds," he offered.Such music, Hefner added, does much more than entertain people. In its best moments, he stated, it can bridge racial and cultural gaps, bringing people of most backgrounds together."And I'm for anything that breaks down the walls," said the creator of the swinging, free-love 1960s Playboy philosophy.Hefner turns 80 on April 9, and virtually every one of those years is reflected inside a pale, deeply lined face and thinning gray hair which is turning white around the fringes. However when the band starts to play, he moves to the music. And when the Playboy Jazz Festival's veteran producer, George Wein, breaks into a song, Hefner grins, nods knowingly and sings along."I can't trust it; 28 years," according to him of the festival that began being a "one-shot deal" in 1979 but proved quite popular he decided to hold it the subsequent year. And then the next year and the next year after that."When you're having a great time, time flies," he adds using a wry smile. no previous page next 1/2 leather ugg boots clearance About 100 FBI agents, 40 sheriff's department rescuers plus a dozen local police officers were doing the search for Ivens, who was described as a passionate hiker and runner.
