Keiko, a famous killer whale proven to most movie-goers, is soon to depart its Oregon home for Iceland, reports Correspondent Chris Legeros of CBS Affiliate KIRO-TV in Seattle.The star of Free Willy was rescued couple of years ago from a Mexican theme park, where he had been in poor health, and was transferred to the Oregon Coast Aquarium. "He had interests in kids, perhaps sexual interests." says Ingram. "I asked him if he'd ever molested a child. No. At any time touched a child, no," Ingram continued to counsel DeMasi but did not tell supervisors at Danbury Hospital where DeMasi was obviously a resident.Four months after the confession Dr. DeMasi molested a 10-year-old patient, Denny Almonte, while working in the emergency room."I felt terrible," says Ingram. "I felt amazed."Dr. Ingram says he was helpless to protect children and his patient as well. He knew that the law needs a psychiatrist to break doctor/patient confidentiality if a patient is a substantial threat to others, but Ingram says he thought fantasies didn't add up to a credible threat. Lawyers for Denny Almonte disagreed."Dr. Ingram kept silent. He chose to protect the predator instead of the prey," says Karen Koskoff, attorney to Denny Almonte.In the case that expands doctors' responsibilities further than ever, Almonte sued Dr. Ingram for negligence and won. A federal jury agreed Ingram stood a legal duty to expose his patient as a potential pedophile. Dr. Robert Michels, of latest York's Cornell Medical Center, worries the verdict puts therapists inside the impossible position of predicting each time a patient will actually act out their fantasies."If psychiatrists are supposed to pick up the phone every time someone tells them this kind of fantasy, we're going to have a large amount of patients who are going to decide to not talk to psychiatrists about troubling ideas," says Michels.And Dr. Ingram fears it may cause psychiatrists to avoid patients like Dr. DeMasi -- the ones who need help the most.
By CBS News legal analyst Andrew Cohen Inside a series of well-coordinated and well-publicized election-year maneuvers Wednesday, the Bush administration deftly and dramatically used in more favorable ground the legal and political fight on the war on terrorism. First, the White House brought in from the cold — from secret CIA prisons — 14 with the highest-level terror detainees. Next, it shipped the boys to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba where they join the countless other detainees awaiting trial there. And, finally, the administration and military officials proposed some serious legal compromises that could give all the tribunal defendants, such as newly transferred terror muckety-mucks, more rights than ever before.The executive branch's stunning triple play doesn't resolve the problem right away. Congress still has to agree to the new tribunal rules proposed through the administration. The Supreme Court might again need to get involved to broker any disputes relating to the other branches as well as any objections raised by of the detainees. But the White House, in the span of just a few hours, has gotten much of the steam from the ears of its legal and political opponents. It's undercut many of the most serious arguments against the administration's treatment of terror prisoners. It's, you might say, done much of what its adversaries had demanded which it do. That's why today is among the most single most important day in the five-year good the legal battle against terrorism. Nissan Motor Co. announced Thursday it's moving its North American headquarters and nearly 1,300 jobs from California towards the Nashville area to take advantage of the cheaper of doing business in the Southeast."The board of Nissan made a decision to relocate our North American headquarters, and we're going to Tennessee," Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn said at the news conference at the state Capitol attended by Gov. Phil Bredesen and other top state officials.The headquarters, that is based in Gardena, Calif., will relocate to Williamson County, a suburban area south of Nashville.Industry analysts the move could threaten Southern California's dominance being a hub for Japanese automakers and strengthen the Southeast's standing as being a major vehicle manufacturing center.Ghosn said the company will invest $70 million to build a new headquarters building in Franklin, which is expected to be complete by 2008.
