CBS News White House Correspondent Mark Knoller has been checking out the White House Booth mailbox. He's found viewers have a lot of questions on a wide variety of topics. I have to know why there wasn't more outrage through the White House Press Corps regarding the whole "Jeff Gannon" incident. Has any previous administration so blatantly introduced someone with no credentials to toss softball questions on the press secretary? Why didn't the legitimate press corps show some backbone and stage a walkout?Matthew Anton, New york You should know that the White House Press Corps has no say in which reporters are accredited or given access with the White House Press Office. It might be a slippery slope when we did. There are a number of reporters whose questions I have found biased, but that's part of freedom with the press. As for staging a walkout: no-one would be happier to see reporters head out the door than White House officials. We are really not at the White House to try to score political points or protest. Our responsibility is to report on White House actions and policies so you - the public - can know what's going on in your name and at your expense. Why didn't Bush nominate a lady for the Supreme Court? We are once more being ignored and under represented with the government. Bush even ignored their own wife, in this regard, who is unquestionably undoubtedly the smarter and more fair minded of the!Jackie Hughes, Chesapeake, VA White House officials say President Bush simply regarded Judge John Roberts as the best qualified of the prospective nominees he considered. We realize at least one woman was among the five finalists with whom Mr. Bush conducted personal interviews. But top aides say the President made his choice in line with the merits, not gender. My real question is why do so many reporters ask someone who has just been, or is presently going through a very traumatic event, "How do you experience feeling?" Isn't it obvious how they feel when they see their home go up in flames, or see someone killed, or another type equally disturbing?Susan Dwyer Over Thirty years in journalism, I've covered my share of disasters: hurricanes, tornadoes, building collapses and floods. And believing when you do, I've tried to steer clear of the "how do you feel" question. You're right. It's dumb - and perhaps even insulting. But a reporter's job would be to convey the depth of loss suffered by disaster victims. And "how do you feel" is the quickest way to get you to definitely reflect on what happened. There are other techniques for finding the same response. But I are finding that sometimes dumb questions receive the very best answers. no previous page next 1/2 ugg boots blue For people who like the idea of church but don't like waking up early or being fashionable on Sunday mornings, there can be a new alternative. It's called "godcasting," reports The Early Show correspondent Debbye Turner. She explains it's just like podcasting, in which you download audio recordings from your computer onto a music player or MP3 player. Then, it is possible to listen to the content anytime, anywhere.Turner says churches can also be turning to the Web to get their message out, streaming their services live. And, says Turner, although it may sound more high-tech than heavenly, it does not take newest way churches are getting the news out.It enables people including Melisse Mossy to get the gospel while she's acquiring it some horseback riding. She "attends" church via her iPod, with services downloaded online site of The GodCast Network, godcast dot org."Being in nature," she tells Turner, "and to be able to ride my horse and possess GodCast with me … It's just a time i don't have to think about anything else other than (what) I'm learning."Godcasts were the brainchild of Horizon Christian Fellowship member Craig Patchett. He learned about podcasting about a year ago, then had what some might call his divine inspiration, creating podcasts from the sermons of his pastor through the church in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., and dubbing them "Godcasts.""It's for many who, maybe for political reasons, geographical reasons, physical reasons, can't reach a church," says Patchett. You are not a computer can just go to godcast.org, select a sermon, then download it into an iPod. no previous page next 1/2

It isn't known what caused her to run away, but the story highlights the pressures and stresses linked to planning a modern-day wedding. Here are some key points in a wedding pre-nup: FinancialDecide ahead of time what the cost of the wedding will probably be. The mother of the bride is granted an identical amount of time to complain to her companion about the groom, her daughter, the hair, his family, etc.Insanity Clause:If the mother of the bride or even the bride start showing signs of madness, the daddy of the bride, maid of honor along with the groom may perform an intervention requiring your beloved partner and mother to stop all wedding event planning activities for 24 hours. mulberry ipad case Sheep were reportedly imported from Belgium and Holland, where it's possible they ate contaminated feed made out of parts of diseased cattle. Weekly commentary by CBS News Chief Washington Correspondent Bob Schieffer. Finally today, I saw from the paper that Fred Hale of Syracuse, The big apple, died Friday. He had been documented as the oldest man in the world. He was 12 days shy of his 114th birthday when pneumonia finally got him. He lived to determine the Boston Red Sox, his favorite team, win the entire world Series last month. He was one of the few fans around when the team won the time before, 86 years ago.I merely love stories about people who live to be 100, maybe because I used to have to write them as being a young newspaper reporter. Interviewing people on their 100th birthday is the assignment very often goes to the rookie, and so i caught my share, always careful to question the obligatory question about why they had lived so long. I found no consensus. One man credited clean living, no wine, women or song. I think he was prompted by younger kin. Another credited bad living, a huge cigar and a swig of bourbon. Another was clueless that at all about that or anything else, as far as I could tell. The late David Brinkley said that, as a young reporter, he once asked a 100-year-old man how it felt to be 100. The existing fellow responded, 'About the way you'd expect,' much better than any answer I ever got.One other reason I love these stories is that somehow copy editors and headline writers always foul them up. My personal favorite on that score was some time back when a wire service moved an account titled Oldest Living Graduate of West Point is Dead.Ok Fred Hale, who died Friday when he was 113; he was older than seven states from the union when he died. He lived in Maine nearly all of his life, but moved to Syracuse when he was 109 to be near his son Fred Jr. Fred Jr. is 82, simply a sprout in the Hale family.By Bob Schieffer Ugg Tall Boots Andy Rooney has taken steps to clear up a bit wreck of his own.The An hour curmudgeon set tongues wagging with a newspaper column this week that suggested that the most incredible woman in TV news "looks just as if she had been in a minor automobile accident" as a result of plastic surgery. He didn't name any names. Like, Rooney said Thursday, he wasn't discussing anybody."I was writing metaphorically," he was quoted saying. "I didn't have anybody really at heart."In his column about aging, Rooney said that most people are more attractive if they look what their ages are instead of synthetically trying to improve their appearance. That's something lots of people in his business can't accept, he noted."One of the most beautiful, OK, the most beautiful, woman in television news stood a job done on herself a short while ago and, while she doesn't look bad, she does not look the same or nearly as good to me as when she had what must have seemed to her to become shortcomings," he wrote.Gossip columnists and undoubtedly a few of Rooney's female colleagues immediately began the guessing game. "I suppose there has to be 20 women in television who thought I used to be talking about them," Rooney said. Some speculated Rooney meant Diane Sawyer, his former colleague on One hour. Not so fast, the New York Post 's Page Six opined on Thursday, tossing the names Barbara Walters, Christiane Amanpour, Maria Shriver, Jane Pauley, Lesley Stahl and Connie Chung to the mix. With so many women to potentially offend, Rooney put a stop to it. He said he regretted writing it: "I didn't mean to this much attention to myself."And he offered a verbal bouquet to Sawyer. "Diane is a great friend of mine and I like her a whole lot," he said. "I think she's not only one of the great people in television but she's one of many good people, too. She's as smart as she's beautiful."
"If I take out of the parking lot tonight on how home and bump into an automobile the law says I have to call and report it," Woosley explains. "But there is not any law that says I have to call and report it only kill someone with the next prescription I write." grey knitted uggs At age 99, retired college professor Helen Reichert retains a deep passion for music.
Conceived in the steaming heat of summer, an infant is slightly more likely to be a boy. Conceived during winter, the odds favor a girl. This is the conclusion of researchers who studied birth dates and weather patterns over 50 years, reports Correspondent Dr. Michael Breen of CBS News station WBBM-TV in Chicago. The research, published in New Scientist magazine, supports scientific suspicions that this ratio of male and female births might vary with all the seasons."Sex ratio seems to correlate with temperature about a month before conception," playboy magazine said. The research was conducted by Alexander Lerchl, in the University of Muenster in Germany.Lerchl compared monthly temperatures in Germany from 1946 to 1995 with German birth records within the same period to see if temperatures influenced the sex of children. He found that more boys were born after hot summers and some women followed cold spells. Even small fluctuations in temperature had an impact on the sex ratio."Temperature seems to play its part once the father-to-be's sperm starts maturing. Lerchl speculates that hot spells may harm sperm carrying an X chromosome a lot more than sperm carrying a Y, so more boys are conceived," the magazine said.Lerchl said his findings don't mean people living in hot climates have more sons than daughters because individuals adapt their clothing to local climate and skin temperature doesn't vary too much from different locations.Still, he believes climate change could further increase the ratio of males to females.Playboy magazine said the other possibility to explain the final results is that people have sex more frequently in balmy weather, which increases a lady's chance of having a boy because sperm carrying the Y male chromosome are faster swimmers plus much more likely to fertilize an egg."The message to the general audience should not be that immediately, 'Let's get our husbands in the cold showers' or 'Let's put them in the jacuzzi,'" says Dr. Edmond Confino, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, who was not involved in the study. While it may be a fascinating link, it's not quite foolproof. One mother, Nina Griffith, told Dr. Breen her daughter Katie had not been conceived in December, however in the hottest month of the year ?– August. mulberry york outlet Throwing the dice and downing some drinks manage to go hand in hand. But one big-money gambler claims when his drinking got unreasonably out of control, two Las Vegas casinos took advantage. Now Hillcrest plumber Stephen Roel is suing two Vegas hotels, CBS News Correspondent Sandra Hughes reports. "Common sense would not allow someone to sign an agreement if they were visibly intoxicated," says Roel's attorney, Jim Jimmerson."He was over wagon, and he was visibly intoxicated throughout a prolonged period," Jimmerson says. "He won and lost and signed markers and tore up markers for dollars approaching one million dollars."Roel is, by his very own admission, a well-known alcoholic. He claims the Nevada Hilton knew he was clearly intoxicated but nonetheless gave him $840,000 price of credit. The same night he claims the Mandalay Bay gave him a $100,000 credit line. Both hotels refused comment.Roel is suing both casinos for a reduction of the nearly $1 million debt and can file a claim with the Nevada Gaming Board. Allowing patrons to gamble drunk is against gaming regulations. Roel's lawyer says he filed the suits after both hotels started sending threatening letters to spend up or face criminal prosecution.
